Empowerment Forum: Towards Ending Migrant Worker Exploitation!

  • Sydney Trade Hall 377 Sussex Street Sydney, NSW, 2000 Australia (map)

Join us for an insightful seminar as we strive to champion the welfare of migrant workers!

Migrant workers in Australia are victims of pervasive and long-lasting workplace exploitation with around 77% of international students paid below the minimum casual hourly wage. Many also face hazardous working conditions, and, in extreme cases, modern slavery.

However, currently, barriers to enforce their rights are prevalent. This doesn't only harm migrants themselves but also affects Australian workers and businesses.

Throughout this seminar, we'll engage in a comprehensive discussion on the various forms of exploitation encountered by migrant workers and identify effective policy measures to address them.

You'll get to learn about the role of Visa Assist Program - a joint effort between Unions NSW and the Immigration Advice and Rights Centre (IARC), to creating a more just and equitable environment for migrant workers.

There will be networking opportunities with legal experts, researchers, and union representatives. You'll also find out more about potential volunteer and cooperation opportunities!
